We’re thrilled to be a part of WhereCamp again. Since the early days of Where-ness, Urban Mapping has been an active participant in the geohacker community. From postgis to graphserver to geowanking to mapping parties, we’re proud to have played a role in this burgeoning ecosystem. Hard to believe it’s only four years since the first O’Reilly internet mapping conference.

Just after this year’s Where2.0 conference the georatti will gather at the Googleplex for hacking, debate, good times and more. If you are interested in attending (and you should!), pack up some camping gear (or reserve a room) and let us know. This year’s geomapping unconference takes place April 3-4 in Mountain View.

We’ve argued that location doesn’t matter for a while. You read this correctly. The reason is that everything that can be located, will be. Location has become a commodity. LBS providers on their own offer a simple service that’s available through a variety of methods. There is no holy grail of location. The relevance, value and opportunity is what one does with location–translating lng/lat into something human-readable, and making it actionable, perishable and tied to a transaction is where this is going.
